Can you feel the Valentine’s Day excitement in the air? Well, get ready to turn up the romance because I’ve got the inside scoop on the perfect date night spots on the stunning island of Curacao!

Success! You're on the list.

Picture this: sandy beaches, mesmerizing sunsets, and cozy waterfront eateries that scream amore. Whether you’re into dreamy walks along the shore or indulging in mouthwatering Caribbean cuisine with your special someone, I’ve got you covered. Now, what I qualify as worthy of a romantic Valentine’s Day date is a special setting where you can get dressed up and eat amazing and unique food, not a casual waterview restaurant.

Here are my top picks for romantic date nights on Curacao:

Baoase Culinary Beach Restaurant

If you ask anyone on the island what the most romantic restaurant on the island is, they’ll probably say Baoase hands down. Baoase is one of the few 5-star hotels on the island, and their restaurant reflects the same 5-star luxury quality. The Culinary Beach Restaurant is right on their private beach, and they offer options to book a private candlelit gazebo for an extra romantic setting.

The food at this restaurant is Caribbean fusion using French techniques. You can expect a fine dining atmosphere with small yet tasty portions on gorgeously appointed plates. You will pay a pretty penny to dine here, especially on Valentine’s Day, but your date will thank you for one of the most romantic experiences on the island you can get.

My partner treated me to an 11 year anniversary dinner at Baoase last October and I was wowed. We were escorted to our private candlelit gazebo with rose petals strewn on the table and heart-shaped shell accents hanging from the rafters. In front of us, written in the sand, was a large heart and “Happy Anniversary” for us to enjoy. The food was nothing short of excellent and felt like a Michelin-star dining experience. My partner’s verdict: worth every guilder!

Fort Nassau Restaurant

Fort Nassau has a great reputation on the island for being one of the best date night spots because of the incredible 360 degree view of the island. This is absolutely a restaurant where you want to dress up and feel fancy for your date night. The food is Caribbean fusion focused with larger portions than you’d find at Baoase. The atmosphere and lighting, especially during sunset, is super romantic. You cannot go wrong here if you can get a reservation!

I’ve dined here several times for date night and other special occasions. I like that their menu isn’t stuffy or complicated, and instead focused on simply elevated wholesome cuisine. Their wine menu is also not too shabby! I highly recommend their Blackened Red Snapper and the Dutch Apple Pie.

Nultwintig [CLOSED]

**EDIT: As of August 2024, Nultwintig announced their unexpected closure.

Nultwintig is not just your average waterfront restaurant in Curacao. A designated historical building in the Pietermaai district, this restaurant looks normal in the front but opens into a beautiful sea view in the back. The decor is beachy boho chic with rattan lamp shades and cute string lights wrapped around the palm trees.

The menu can either be set-style or a la carte and the cuisine is seafood-focused with some of the largest lobsters I’ve seen on the island. The plating and presentation is top notch and stylish, similar to Baoase, that tows the line of gastronomy and fine dining. Their wine list is excellent and pairs well with their thoughtful menu. If you stop here for lunch, make sure to check out their “beach club” which features an infinity pool and plush pool chairs available for rent. It’s a great way to spend Valentine’s Day!

The Wine Cellar

If you want to take a break from the ever-present island cuisine and take your sweetie to a lovely French restaurant, look no further than The Wine Cellar. This restaurant is located in Punda close to Pietermaai and looks unassuming at first glance. While you won’t find sea views from the restaurant, the indoor ambiance is set for a romantic night out. You’ll find starch white linens draped over each table with a candle and a flower.

The menu is similar to what you’d find at a fine dining restaurant in the US with some French classics thrown in. Filet mignon and the roasted rack of lamb are staples, but if you’re feeling more indulgent try the foie gras or dover sole meuniere. When you’re finished with dinner you can take a lovely stroll around the Waaigat (lagoon) and take in the city sights.

Divine Picnic Arrangements

Have you already exhausted all the restaurants on this list and are looking for something out of the box? Custom tailored picnics are a sure way to win anyone’s heart, especially when it’s on the beach. The trend of tailored picnics are slowly making their way to Curacao, and I expect in the next few years for there to be more businesses specializing in picnics. While I haven’t personally tried this company yet, Divine Picnic Arrangements has great reviews for their picnics on Curacao.

They specialize in stylized picnics that can either take place on the beach or in your villa. You’ll find boho chic lounge pillows and serveware coupled with table candles and flower petals depending on the occasion you specify. Divine Picnics typically provides catering of finger foods or fun build-it-yourself feasts, like taco night. I’m impressed with their offerings and can’t wait to try them out for a romantic date night some time!

Activities

If you’re a foodie, I highly recommend participating in food-related activities while on the island. There is no better way to enjoy food than with others! Here are a few recommended activities through Viator that will show you the true foodie nature of this island:

Final Thoughts

Overall, just being on the island of Curacao is a great start for a romantic getaway. My list above is by no means exhaustive, and there are plenty more romantic experiences you can find here. Last year on Valentine’s Day, for example, my partner took me to BijBlauw (which I wrote about in my 5 Best Restaurants post!) and it was one of the most romantic dates I’ve ever been on.

Also, don’t forget to to pair your romantic excursion with fresh flowers! There are plenty of flower shops all over the island that make arrangements for special occasions. Just make sure to order them in advance otherwise you’ll be out of luck!
